Welcome to Nick Davies as the newest qualified Patent Attorney to the firm.
Nick is a European Patent Attorney with a Master of Physics degree from The University of Manchester and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Exeter.
Prior to joining Handsome I.P., Nick worked for a large private practice firm in Bristol, where he gained considerable experience of handling patent applications across a broad range of technical fields including healthcare, computer networking, 2D and 3D printing systems, and telecommunications.
During Nick's final year project of his masters degree, he developed a novel waveguide system for generating and detecting orbital angular momentum and, while studying for his PhD, Nick worked with colleagues at the Met Office to develop state-of-the-art instrumentation for measuring the optical properties of atmospheric aerosol particles. As a result of Nick's research, he has acquired an in-depth understanding of a range of aerosol measurement techniques including photoacoustic spectroscopy, cavity ringdown spectroscopy, filter-based absorption photometry, optical particle counting, and differential mobility analysis, and has authored and co-authored a number of scientific publications relating to the testing and deployment of these technologies.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time in nature with his family, is a keen (though mediocre) badminton player, and has a thirst for trying new Belgian beers.
