Patents
A patent
gives its owner the right to prevent others from using their idea
commercially. However, to be valid, the idea must be new, inventive and
industrially applicable.
Patents are territorial in that a UK
patent only provides protection in the UK and a French patent only
provides protection in France, and so on. However, it is possible to have
an international patent application. This is an application only and at
some point national patent applications must be applied for on the basis
of the international application to obtain national patents.
There
is also the possibility of a European patent application. Once granted it
must be validated in each of the countries of interest. This system can
considerably reduce costs.
We strive to find
patent and trademark attorneys in other countries who offer excellent
service at competitive prices. To this end we have contacts who can handle
your overseas cases, especially in the USA, at very reasonable
prices.
