lecture entitled "IP - What's it all about?" to undergraduates at the
University of Bath. This is the second year running that Lewis has given
this lecture as part of the Student's Union Skills Training programme

The report states that an applicant's chances increased by 50%. If a formal objection was raised by the Examiner during the application process then using an attorney made an even more significant difference - 68%. If an opposition was raised by a third party then an applicant who used an attorney increased its chances of registration by 52%. As it says "When a proposed trademark is important to an ... applicant, hiring an attorney may significantly increase the likelihood of overcoming barriers in the process and obtaining a certificate of registration."

voucher scheme to assist SMEs improve their innovation. Each voucher of up

22 May 2012: We are getting into the Olympic spirit at
Handsome I.P. We closed our Bath office for 2 hours so we could attend the
Human Olympic Rings World Record Attempt in Bath. Apparently we had more
people (over 2,000) than the present record and are now waiting for the

Let the World Know that You Want to License Your Invention.
As of 1 January 2012, WIPO allows applicants to indicate that licences are available for the inventions described within International Patent Applications.
Applicants interested in licensing the inventions contained in their international applications can indicate the availability for licensing purposes of their inventions in some or all of the PCT Contracting States, and specify the terms on which such licences will be granted.
The licensing indications will be reflected in the bibliographic data relating to the particular application on the World Intellectual Property Organisation PATENTSCOPE website, but will not be part of the published international application itself.
Furthermore, the existence of licensing indications will be added to the list of search criteria within PATENTSCOPE.

18 November 2011: The UK government has announced the creation of a new small claims service which will make it easier for small businesses to protect their trademarks, designs and copyright. Following a review of intellectual property rights, the new small claims service will be set up at the Patents County Court, which will limit costs and award damages up to £5,000.

fees will increase from 6th April 2010. For instance, the fee for
requesting an official search will increase from £100 to £150
and the fee for requesting substantive examination will increase from 70
pounds to £100. More significantly, renewal fees will increase. For
instance, the first one, due at the end of the fourth year, will increase
from £50 to £70 and the last one, due at the end of the
nineteenth year, will increase from £400 to £600. If you have
any queries or want to know how to beat the increase in renewal fees and
pay only the present, lower, renewal fees then please call us now.
